Participants: Open to youth ages 5-10
Directed by Cherice Harrison-Nelson
Queen, Guardians of the Flame Maroon Society and Co-Founder Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame
Each drum instructor will prepare students to perform one selection to be played at Night-Out-Against-Crime. Drummer will play lead and students will accompany.

PROGRAMS PAST

The Positive Vibrations Foundation introduced Congo Kids in 2013. The Congo Kids collective's mission is to engage young people with living musical masters and share the rhythmic heritage of New Orleans. Through this program, the Positive Vibrations Foundation hosts African Drumming Workshops for kids and African Drum Care Workshops for all ages with partners such as Upturn Arts, the Congo Square Preservation Society, and Cherice Harrison-Nelson.

    Congo Kids Stage Jazz in The Park 2014 Armstrong Park Schedule

 

Congo Kids was held each Thursday during Jazz in The Park Spring 2014. The Congo Square Preservation Society led a Drum Circle plus Dance Workshop and then a Second Line to the Congo Kids Stage.
